Having trained as a graphic designer through polytechnic Juliana was taught all the fundamentals of art production. Learning printmaking, photography, jewellery, illustration, graphic design and figure drawing from leading practising artists of the day, it gave a wonderful broad skill base from which to further explore.

Ten years ago having moved to Nelson Juliana began painting and sculpting. Switching between the two disciplines offers variety and continuity in different forms. Because Juliana uses thick impasto oil paints with a palette knife the similarities are often an extension of the other.

Juliana likes to capture light filled New Zealand beach, sea, lake, river scenes that we are familiar with. Picnics with family and friends, life in New Zealand on holiday. A little blurred around the edges but a moment in time.
