Julie Stewart
Perth, Australia
Julie graduated with a Batchelor of Fine Arts in 1996 from RMIT University in Melbourne and moved to Nelson in 2010. Painting intuitively, she is influenced by landscape painters J.M.W Turner, John Ruskin and Australian Richard Clement. Julie is inspired by NZ’s often ephemeral landscape; mist and clouds constantly changing, sometimes dark and harsh, sometimes soft and unifying, but always beautiful.
The painting is worked repeatedly to create a sense of depth, space and time. Working with fingers and a rag, she looks towards the light in most of her paintings. Her works are often related to each other and to her relationship to the natural world.
