Ronnie Baker

a photo of artist Ronnie Baker, she is a woman wearing glasses, a headband, a paint smock, and an apron is painting an abstract landscape on a large canvas, featuring mountains, water, and sky in shades of blue, yellow, and white at an art gallery.

Kent, United Kingdom

Ronnie Baker is inspired by the stunning landscapes of Aotearoa. The smallest water runnel, the pattern on a rock, or light falling across an epic mountain ridgeline captures Ronnie’s attention. The forms and contours of the land—and the ways nature and humankind intersect and interrupt one another—are recurring themes that weave through Ronnie’s work. In their practice, Ronnie intuitively responds to the work as it unfolds, pulling on threads that begin to resolve well.

Ronnie uses acrylic paint, charcoal, and pencil on paper, ply, cardboard, or canvas to create works through a process of abstraction that convey immersive experiences encountered in the outdoors.

Originally from southeast England, Ronnie has been drawing and painting for as long as they can remember. Since relocating to Aotearoa in 2009, Ronnie has worked as a freelance illustrator and artist.
