Colleen Tunnicliff has been shooting commercially for over 30 years and has now become her own demanding client with an open brief to create. “At the heart of my eclectic and free ranging eye is an observation of the human condition, a fascination with the built world, a love of objects, the passing of time and an awe of nature.”

Drawing on a refined set of technical skills Colleen’s images are visually lush on initial gaze but then provocative and moving on a deeper level. “ For me a successful image resonates and lingers because you’ve been made to feel or understand something possibly in a way that no other medium can.

Along the way Colleen has had 2 solo exhibitions, and is now looking to exhibit “The Hop Kilns of Nelson” project. This is a significant collection of large format images of the last remaining hop kilns and celebrates a truely unique part of Nelson’s architectural vernacular.

The kilns are by nature are odd, humble structures. But they are also accidental monuments to the regions past horticultural enterprise and these images serve to memorialise the hard working families and field workers of the day.

As a fourth generation Nelsonian, the ties and connection to the region are strong and after many years in Auckland, Colleen now calls Ngatimoti and the Motueka river home.
