Rosalina-Ludmila McCarthy
Greymouth, New Zealand
A published Writer and Professional Photographer who for many years staged numerous photographic exhibitions, Rosalina, (formerly Ludmila Rosalina Palamountain) semi-retired from photography to Art. Deciding her paintings would not have the realism her photographs had, she experimented with monochrome oils & water colours, exhibited at different venues including the Nelson Suter Art Gallery & Wellington Art Show, then changed artistic direction.
A Postgraduate in Museum Studies, a major influence was her fascination with shapes, style and minimalism of Oriental Art –first viewed through the Shanghai Museum’s Exhibition of 4000 years of Art & Artifacts & visits to Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. Residential study with English water colour Artist Eddie Askew plus Canadian Artist Robert Sinclair – a specialist in minimalist Oriental brush work with the black ink technique, captured her imagination. Now developing her own unique style of painting, she continues her studies into the minimalistic style of black ink Oriental Art.
